Anne Kristin's Story
Initial bio submission in 2007:
Life
My bio ... hmmm... what can I tell you about myself?
My favorite things are: Music, photography, linguistics, family & friends, travel, gardening, interior decorating, writing, road trips, exotic & tropical locales ... and intelligent, well-grounded, down-to-earth, no-nonsense, optimistic, adventurous, fun-loving individuals with a gentle & kind attitude toward others.
Norwegian was & always will be my first language. English is a given. Am currently working to perfect my Spanish, French & Italian. Am familiar with a few terms / phrases in several other languages ... Romanian, Filipino, Hindi, Urdu, Chinese, Polish, Russian, German, etc....
Previously worked as a Health Insurance Underwriter - reviewing medical reports to assess risk & eligibility - while putting myself through college. Found that to be very boring, so after graduating from Northeastern IL University with a degree in Business & Mngt, decided to switch directions.
Subsequently, as the Exec. Asst. to the Treasurer/OM, the Asst. Treasurer & also the Dir. of Taxes at the corp. office of a major global manufacturer, I enjoyed the work very much. I learned a lot about the business environment, made some very good friends and appreciate & will always treasure my time there.
Am now working as the Clinical Research Executive Assistant - as well as back-up to the Office Manager - at the corporate office of a smaller Pharmaceutical Research Firm, working to improve the lives of many at risk of or actually suffering from Malaria & African Sleeping Sickness. I find being involved in this type of work / research to be infinitely more inspiring & satisfying ... much more so than any other job I've held in the past.
I'm very much a realist, but have secret passion for an optimistic & joy-filled future. I still believe in happily-ever-after.

How do I blow off steam?
Photography or a drive in the country w/ my favorite music playing, among other things.

The topic of the Photo Submission Contest this time around is:
"How you're doing more with less"
sooooooooo
along that vein..............
Previously, like many people, I once was caught up w/ the idea of "having" things... thinking that having this or t...Expand for more
hat was a sign of success.
In the very beginning, when I was very young, I got caught up in trying to impress someone I was dating. In trying to keep up w/ him, I wasted both my time and money, neither of which I had much of at the time. However, that person turned out to be all lies & smokescreens himself. Who needs that?!
It was such a relief in getting out of that relationship and finally focusing on my own, real & worthwhile goals.
The best feeling in the world is to be a woman who can take care of herself financially, no matter what.
After that relationship, though, in order to feel better about myself, I was still into having nice clothes, for example (not really to impress other people; just for a feeling of success from within).
However .........
I've been through a lot over the years and have met many different types of people; some good, some bad.
It's taught me more about my own personal beliefs .... what I stand for, what I'd like to represent, what I absolutely refuse put up with.....
~~~
What's important to me is the self ...
the true self within each one of us.
So, finally .....
I have no desire to accumulate things anymore.
It seems silly to me now to think that having things is a measure of success ....
My feelings of personal success now come from my relationships....
with my favorite guy, my favorite friends, my favorite relatives.
If necessary, I'd rather have a small group of really wonderful people in my life. That's really all I need.
Personally, my main focus now is my creative side.... photography, creative writing, building on my favorite relationships, shaping my future and my self ... working to create a life that reflects the peaceful, creative, loving person that I am within.
~~~
You get one do-over. What do you do differently?
Too many and too personal to mention here.
Suffice it to say that I'm now working on creating the life I truly want, that will be an expression of who I truly am ... me at my happiest & very best! :-)
~~~
What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion?
I'm not the wallflower everyone might have thought I was. Never was.
However, with maturity, I've grown comfortable with who I am and now am not afraid to be myself.
